Kick-off workshop for country mission in Jamaica, November 4, 2013, Kingston
As part of the joint IADB/A2ii project „Implementation of Regulatory and Supervisory Standards in Microinsurance Markets in Latin America”, the Financial Services Commission (FSC) from Jamaica hosted a kick-off national workshop that served as starting point for the Jamaican microinsurance country diagnostic.
Approximately 120 representatives from public institutions, insurance companies, credit unions, intermediaries and other important stakeholders attended the workshop. At the workshop, the A2ii representatives introduced the A2ii´s mission, its partners and strategy, as well as its work supporting the development of microinsurance policies and regulation around the world. They also explained the objectives of the IADB/A2ii project, its components, as well as the country diagnostic methodology –Toolkit 1 to be applied during the first component of the project.
Ms Rosemarie Henry, Senior Director Insurance at FSC illustrated the FSC’s perspective of Microinsurance Future in Jamaica. She highlighted the importance of developing a microinsurance market and presented the challenges and opportunities for Jamaica.
The international A2ii consultant team participating in the workshop presented the objectives of the country diagnostic in Jamaica and a summary of microinsurance regulation examples developed in other countries around the world as well as their impact on the development of the referred markets. Following, the team started its country mission undertaking a series of interviews with different stakeholders active in the Jamaican insurance market.
