A2ii-ASSAL webinar on "Insurance for MSMEs: The Protection Gap exposed by Covid-19"
English
Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) make up the majority of enterprises in the world, providing employment and contributing significantly to national incomes - mainly in emerging and developing countries. They therefore play an important role in sustainable, inclusive economic growth and development and improved financial stability given appropriate conditions and timely support. Such enterprises cover all sectors of an economy and may be operating within the formal sector or in the so-called informal or shadow economy. Whilst the contribution of MSMEs to national economies is widely recognised, their financial needs are not always being met. MSMEs are a significantly underserved target market by insurers. At the same time the risks faced by this economically vital group are barely understood. This becomes even more apparent during the current world-wide Covid-19 crisis that puts the economic viability of many SMEs at unprecedented risk. Formal insurance products are a promising tool to increase the resilience of SMEs, spur business investments and, thereby, contribute to enterprise growth.
This webinar, jointly organized by the Association of Insurance Supervisors of Latin America (ASSAL) and the Access to Insurance Initiative (A2ii), taking place on 27 August 2020 at 4pm (CET), aims to provide supervisors with a better understanding of how insurance can help MSMEs build resilience and deal with immediate situations and risks to which they are exposed, helping them to better prepare to face them in the future.
The seminar will be held in two languages: English and Spanish.
